Existence of Free Will

Free will is natural to every single person, they say it is the independent choice and voluntary decisions in our daily lives. Some people say that free will is an illusion, so I wonder if free will really exist? How do we really choose and decide on things? What do sects say about free will itself?

We have the ability to choose and make decision. We are capable to stop and step back from a situation that seems to be wrong or pose as a danger to us. We also have the ability to make a reasoned decision among different alternatives. In my opinion, some of us really don’t want anyone else meddling in their own decisions. Just like our teenagers today, they prefer to decide for themselves, they want to be free on handling and making decisions on their lives. That’s why I can say that we have a right to be free from our own choices.

Being a Christian myself, I believe that free will really exist because God don’t force and dictate us to believe and have faith in Him. He let us decide on what we believe, do, and think. That’s why I think that in the present, there are many different religions, with different doctrines, beliefs and principles because God allows us to have the freedom to seek the truth in our hearts and to have salvation in our lives.

How about love? According to Evan Minton “If human beings don’t have libertarian free will, then it is impossible for love to exist”. If our love for God and one another is not given out of our own free will, it would be impossible for our love to be genuine. It is genuine if it is freely given to the people, it has a freedom to choose to love or not.

However, even though we have free will it still has a frontier. If we will use it in a wrong way maybe our Lord will not let us have a free will. Each one of us have different opinion about free will, but we should remember to be accountable for our own actions. Be wise and in charge on handling and making decisions for ourselves. And always remember that God allows us to have a free will because he wants us to have our freedom in our choices and in our own lives.
